Stockholm Royal Seaport

Stockholm Royal Seaport is one of Stockholm's environmental zones. With high environmental goals and environmental requirements in the early stages through environmental programs and policies for all developers the conditions for achieving an environmentally neighborhood in the world is created.

One of the environmental goals is to reduce the environmental burden from transport. Therefore, the city of Stockholm has created opportunities for a mass logistics network in Norra Djurgårdsstaden. In the development of new city districts, large amounts of excavation and filling materials are produced, approx. 30-50 kbm per apartment. In Norra Djurgårdsstaden, industrial areas such as the Gasverket in Hjorthagen, parts of the harbor area in Värtahamen, the container port in Frihamen and oil storage in Loudden are to be converted into new residential areas and business purposes. These areas have been used for decades for activities, and emissions to land must now be removed and cleaned up. An important part is then to minimize the amount of material to landfill and to recycle as much as possible.

Bulk handling for construction generates volumes of heavy traffic with trucks; to and from construction sites. Up to 40-50,000 vehicle movements per year only within the Norra Djurgårdsstaden project area. Through local mass management, amounts of transported vehicle kilometers can be drastically reduced by over 90% through coordination and planning of the transports.
